  • The Stranger Cover (Aug 23 - 29)

A couple of weeks a go I did a piece on illustration board called Woozy. Well, on Monday the Art Director at The Stranger ask if they could use it for this weeks cover. I sent them a hi-rez scan and the cover came out today. This is my second cover for the Stranger, the other was in March 2006

  • Happy 10th Birthday Rikcat.com

Ten years ago today I registered this domain. I really didn’t start posting up my artwork on the site till 2001, when I was happily unemployed from one of my many dotcom gigs. The site has grown and had many redesigns. I hope to put out a new design by the end of the year.

  • Gary Baseman Show @ Billy Shire

I’m a huge fan of Gary Baseman and had the opportunity to see his show at Earl McGrath a couple of years ago when I was working in NYC. Truly amazing show. Well, the folks over at Billy Shire Fine Arts have posted photos and images from Gary’s latest show. If you live in the Los Angeles area you owe it to yourself to check it out in person. Also if you don’t own it already you should pick up Gary’s book Dumb Luck

  • New Site: Rikcatindustries.com

As some of you may know already, I’m a web designer by day, artist by night and this site is primarily displaying and selling my artwork. Well, I thought it was about time that I have a proper portfolio site for my web and design work. So Rikcat Industries was hatched today. I’m using the name as sort of an umbrella for all my web experiments, tech and web thoughts, code samples, and design portfolio.

On Saturday morning at 6:25am my wife gave birth to our first child. It’s been an amazing experience one that I’ll never forget. Our healthy baby girl weighed 6lbs and was 19in long when she arrived. Her mom is doing well and recovering. We expect to bring our baby girl home on Monday.

  • Customizable Twitter Badge in PHP5

What’s Twitter? A global community of friends and strangers answering one simple question: What are you doing? Answer on your phone, IM, or right here on the web!

I wrote a script that uses the Twitter API to build a customizable twitter status badge. I’m pretty much a novice PHP programmer and this is the first piece of code I’m releasing. It should

  • WindUp Gallery : The Rising

On the May 18th I’ll have one piece at a new gallery called WindUp Gallery in Mesa, AZ. “The Rising” has the work of sixty-five other artists (listed below) of various styles. My piece at the show is called Moderation and it’s 8″x 8″ on Canvas. Why “Moderation”, well when I was a kid my friend across the streets mom would always say I would get worms if I ate too much chocolate.

  • Store Feed and New Work

I’ve built a new RSS Feed for new paintings in the store. The feed will keep you up to date on any new pieces added to the store.

Also, I’ve been doing some experimenting with new techniques and will include some of these pieces to the artwork and store areas of the site. I’ve been working on pieces that have a light, eerie narrative with more muted color tones.

  • Computer Habits Changing

My computer habits have changed in the last year. I’ve noticed that I’m using more web based software. I find data portability to be the over riding factor in the products I use. Last year, I changed from using Apple’s Mail program to using Google Apps for my email, calendar and documents. This gives me amazing flexibility. I’m able to get my email
