  • Couple of Things

Hello everyone, hope you guys is having a great spring. Just a couple of things to update you on.

First off, you’ll notice that I’ve updated the look of the site slightly by adding some background texture. I still plan on tweaking it some more and it will be a work in progress through out the year.

  • Redesign 08′rough around the edges

I’ve done a redesign of the site. Got tired of the old design and needed to change it up. The biggest changes are the artwork section now uses and index page with thumbnails and single artwork pages. I’ve switched from using my home grown store to etsy.com. There are still some things that need to be addressed, but it’s about 90% there.

  • Happy 10th Birthday Rikcat.com

Ten years ago today I registered this domain. I really didn’t start posting up my artwork on the site till 2001, when I was happily unemployed from one of my many dotcom gigs. The site has grown and had many redesigns. I hope to put out a new design by the end of the year.

  • New Site: Rikcatindustries.com

As some of you may know already, I’m a web designer by day, artist by night and this site is primarily displaying and selling my artwork. Well, I thought it was about time that I have a proper portfolio site for my web and design work. So Rikcat Industries was hatched today. I’m using the name as sort of an umbrella for all my web experiments, tech and web thoughts, code samples, and design portfolio.

  • Artist a Day and New Work

Thanks to artistaday.com for making me yesterday’s artist of the day. The site it a good way to find artist you may not have heard about. I got turned on to a couple while browsing and i’m sure you will too. If you fancy yourself a designer they are also having a contest to design there logo. Also it using WordPress in a unique way, well done guys.

  • Store Feed and New Work

I’ve built a new RSS Feed for new paintings in the store. The feed will keep you up to date on any new pieces added to the store.

Also, I’ve been doing some experimenting with new techniques and will include some of these pieces to the artwork and store areas of the site. I’ve been working on pieces that have a light, eerie narrative with more muted color tones.

  • Site Upgrade & New Painting

I’ve upgraded my WordPress install to the current version 2.1 and everything seems to be okay. If anyone notices anything not working either make a comment or send me and email . Really like some of the new admin features with this upgrade.

Also I’ve posted a new pieces in the store called Amputated that I completed this weekend.

  • New Year, New Site

About a two weeks ago I had the idea that it would be great to have a new site for the new year. So I started comping and settled on a design pretty quickly and jumped into coding. I knew I wanted to use WordPress for CMS. I’ve done a couple projects with WordPress in the past and had some experience with the template tags and liked the capabilities.

  • Google Maps + Paintings

This is currently Down….I’m gonna work on getting this working in the new site soon!

I’m currently teaching myself the programming language PHP. I’ve been tinkering with it for years but I’m finally learning the ins and outs, so I can build my own web apps. I’ve also been fooling around with this Google Map API class that I’ve found. So I put together this mashup with my sold painting locations and Google Map. It just tracks by zipcode not by address to protect the buyers address information.

  • Site Redesign 06′

I’ve redesign my site finially. I had many stops and starts in the last couple of months, but I committed to this design and coded it this weekend. The site extensively uses Lightbox JS 2.0, which is a nifty javascript that overlays images on the page without leaving. It also builds slideshows on the fly if you couple images together.

Another change is the “Paintings on eBay” button at the top. Kind of like the “Hot Doughnuts Now” neon sign at Krispy Kreme’s, it will only be there if I have paintings posted on eBay.

Well i hope you like it and if you find any bugs let me know.
